To take your measurements and ensure a perfectly tailored jacket, you will first need a measuring tape.

Tailored jacket

how to measure the front and back lenght

For the front length of the torso, start measuring at the base of the neck, in the hollow between the collarbones, and go down to the point where you want the jacket to end. This is not a body measurement but the desired jacket length: for example at the waist, at the trouser belt, 5 cm below the navel… it’s up to you.

For the back length, the process is the same, but the measurement starts from the C7 vertebra, the most prominent bump at the back of the neck.”

How to measure the shoulder width

Do not measure from the visual “end of the shoulders” that adds several unnecessary centimeters.
You must measure:
From the acromion bone on the left to the acromion bone on the right.
• The acromion is the small, flat, bony point at the end of the clavicle.
• Place the tape across the upper back, straight and horizontal.
• Measure bone to bone, not muscle to muscle.

This is the only measurement that produces clean armholes and a correct shoulder line.

How to measure the arm lenght

Place the tape on the acromion bone (the shoulder joint), then measure straight down to the wrist, with the arm extended

Clarifications:

  • You start exactly at the edge of the shoulder bone, not on the trapezius.
  • You measure until the prominent wrist bone, right before the hand.

This avoids including trapezius length and gives a straightforward, repeatable arm measurement for tailoring.

How to measure the arm circumference

Measure at the widest point of the upper arm, usually in the upper third between the shoulder and the elbow.
• The arm must be relaxed, not flexed.

• Keep the tape level and snug but not tight.

Measuring with the biceps flexed produces inaccurate numbers that distort the sleeve pattern.

how to mesure the waist circumference

To measure the waist circumference, i do not use the conventional method.

Measure the circumference exactly at the point where you decided the jacket length should end. In other words, the point you reached when measuring the front length is the exact level where you should take your waist measurement.

how to measure the chest circumference

wrap the measuring tape around the torso, passing under the armpits and across the fullest part of the chest.
Make sure the tape stays horizontal all around the body and sits snugly without being tight. Stand straight, breathe normally, and do not puff up your chest to ensure an accurate measurement for the jacket.

First, to ensure accurate measurements and a perfectly fitted pair of trousers, you will need a measuring tape.

Pants sizing

How to measure the waist circumference

To measure your waist, measure at the exact point where you want the trousers to sit. This is often at the small bony bump on the hips, 3-7 cm below the belly button for a mid-rise . Keep the tape horizontal, not too tight, but in contact with the skin.

If you don’t have a measuring tape, take a pair of trousers that fits you well, lay it flat, and measure the waistband.

If you usually wear a size 42, you can also simply indicate 42. (Not US sizes*)

How to measure de hips circumference

To measure the hip circumference, place the tape around the widest part of the hips and buttocks. Make sure the tape stays horizontal all the way around the body and fits snugly without being tight.

Again, if you don’t have a measuring tape, take a pair of trousers that fits you well, lay it flat on the floor, smooth out all wrinkles, and measure 15 cm below the waistband across its width.

How to measure the outseam lenght

mesure from the waist down to the floor, standing upright. Take this measurements barefoot and with the help of someone else for better precision or you could take a pair of yours that fits you well lay it flat and mesure the outseam lenght.
